There’s plenty of evidence showing that people prefer to watch videos than read text. A Usurv survey of 1000 UK adults found we are more likely to share (39%), comment (36%) and ‘like’ (56%) an online video than a text article. Apparently videos are far easier for the mind to process and more engaging.

So the case for vlogging (video blogging) is a strong one. The obstacles to doing so are also quite significant. They cost more to make, you need good production values, a script, they take time to film, edit and promote. Even then, if the result is dull, no one will watch it.

This is why we have set up a new vlogging production unit – VlogBiz, to help businesses create compelling, cost effective Vlogs to complement their conventional blogging activities.

You can see one of our first vlogs below. If you’d like to discuss making one for your business, get in touch here:

Underneath, there are 6 bullet points on how to optimise your finished video.

1# Write long video descriptions – 200 words minimum

The more YouTube knows about your video, the more confidently if can rank you for keywords and long tail keywords too.

2# Optimise video keywords

Ranking in YouTube is all very well, but ranking well on Google takes your traffic to another level. Before deciding on a video keyword, check to see if there are video results on the first page and that they have at least 300 searches per month in Google.

3# Upload your video with YouTube SEO in mind

The file name should include your keywords.

4# Views from online communities

Online communities like LinkedIn are excellent places to funnel traffic from. The number and quality of your video views is one of the most important YouTube ranking factors. Find a question in the community that your video helps answer.

5# Encourage subscriptions

Subscribing to and liking a video are two clear indicators to YouTube that your video is worthy of elevating. At the end of the video, add a strong call to action that encourages them to subscribe.

6# Create keyword-rich playlists

A keyword rich play list gives YouTube deeper information about your video’s topic. Once you have 10 videos on your YouTube channel, organise them into tightly themed playlists.
